Christmas 2009, etc.

This year, for Christmas, I do believe my boys got something no other child in, possibly the world, got for Christmas: homemade medieval armor, complete with helmet (Ebay), shield, and sword (Purpleheart Armory). It all began with our trip to the Renaissance festival this past November, seeing all those cool costumes and men dressed to the hilt in knight-wear, it was amazing. Jon decided he wanted to be really hands-on with their Christmas presents this year, which he was for a solid 5 weeks, I'd say, at his dad's shop dying and cutting leather, designing, and making what turned out to be some killer armor. He also made shields out of the heavy duty leather, which he and the boys are going to go back and customize further. This wasn't by any means a money-saving venture, just pure fun, going for the wow factor Christmas morning. Mission accomplished, too. The boys actually wore their medieval suits to the different homes we went around to Christmas morning, it was fun to see people's reactions! They have had some great sword battles in the yard, and Mychael, especially, has an appreciation for the weight of armor. He actually has chainmail (spell check tells me that's not correct, but you know what I mean), so his whole suit was quite heavy...we told him not to get knocked over or he would have trouble getting back up!

Jordan got lots of arts and crafts, a huge model horse, a stable with horses in it, Littlest Pet Shop stuff, Leapster software, stuffed animals, pajamas, a Barbie, and other stuff. It was a good Christmas, for sure! My parents gave Jon and I a gift certificate to Ikea to get some dressers for the boys' room, and some other stuff, too. We got some nice gifts from his parents, too, including a massage certificate for Jon, and a beautifully framed picture of our family from the beach trip back in the fall. We are blessed in so many ways, there are just no words to express the gratitude in my heart.
