Two and a half or so months ago I made plans to go to Milwaukee the same time as my dad, since my grandmother ended up not coming to Florida when we were there in January because of too much sickness going around at the time. So, I found it to be such an awesome culmination of events when my trip coincided with my cousin, Terry, and his wife, Kim, coming home with their adopted son, who was born 8 days before. Wesley is the first grandchild for Terry and Kim's parents, so it was just so special to be there at the airport when they arrived and to see the joyful expressions on everyone's faces. My dad was especially thrilled to get to see such a happy moment for his little sister, knowing how she had yearned for a grandchild and all of the fun that goes along with being a grandparent. I guess it's like gaining membership into a club, in a way!
Even with that aside, I had a wonderful time visiting with my dad and grandma, and my aunt, uncle, and cousins, too. Aunt Pat gave us a wonderful tour of Milwaukee, which is so rich in history and culture, what a neat and unique city, and I just love the people. Midwestern hospitality is no myth! I got to have Friday fish fry, I didn't even think about getting grilled fish...beer battered for me! And, of course, Patty made sure I got my frozen custard fix, soooooo good. My dad, Gigi, and I played lots of Scrabble, I think we each took a turn at winning, I'm not nearly as intimidated about playing them as I once was! I had a guest room at Grandma's independent living complex all to myself, it was cavernous. I said I didn't think I'd had that much privacy since before I left for college and had my own room at my parents' house! I turned on the TV for some background noise, I am NOT used to the quiet!! Oh, and we even had a bit of snow, which pleased my dad since he's always loved snow, while it was 75 degrees back home in NC. Well, just wanted to share all of that and record the memories while they were fresh in my mind. I'll post the pictures, although I have many more "snapshots" in my mind which I will always cherish.
