on a different note...

I had meant to post this earlier...we were at our local library recently and they had this very lifelike "Dobby," so the boys posed with him. We have only just recently seen all of the Harry Potter movies, and are in the process of reading the 4th book together, very enjoyable!

Zach

I know that a lot of people don't know about what all went on last Friday, so this post may come as quite a surprise...I will make a LONG story short by just saying that we were on our way to Bryson City, NC with our friends, Dub and Carla, when we realized something was quite wrong with our little Zachy (4 years old). With the help of my dad we quickly figured out he was not just still recuperating from the flu, but in fact seemed to be having symptoms that looked like diabetes. We made it to a hospital in Valdese, NC, learned that his blood sugar was 741 (normal is about 80-120), and the story gets long after that. Anyway, after a helicopter ride to Duke (Jon rode, too) and a 3-day stay, we are back at home and in the process of trying to regulate his blood glucose through insulin and diet. I will elaborate more later, but I just want to send out a heartfelt thank you to all who prayed from the moment we realized something was wrong, and to all who have been praying ever since. We appreciate all of the calls and emails from family, friends, and our brothers and sisters in Christ, God has carried us through this ordeal and blanketed us in a peace that surpasses all understanding. We pray for healing for our boy, but let me tell you how we already have seen God move on his behalf. One of the main reasons for flying him to Duke as opposed to going by ambulance was that the doctors were "confused" as to why, despite Zach's blood sugar and the A1C test showing he had had this brewing for about 3 months or so, all of his other tests were normal (blood ph, kidney function, etc.). When his initial blood sugar wouldn't even register on the monitor I began praying specifically that all of his levels would normalize, that there wouldn't be any damage to any other organs. WE know why his tests were normal, and God's glory is WORTH a helicopter ride!

I live for birthdays

Nathan normally sleeps until almost 9 am, but today on his birthday he was up at 7:30, wide-eyed and bushy-tailed. His demeanor said, "OK, I'm ready to start celebrating 'me,' now!" He got a new skateboard deck from mommy and daddy, plus, I found an awesome super-soaker at Target that holds the water in a backpack. My parents got him a Target card so he can pick out what he wants, and we'll have another celebration when we get back to NC with our friends and family up there. We like to have birth "months" in our family...late gifts? No such thing! We had Duncan Donuts for breakfast, his favorite, cake last night, and then there's the big shindig for my dad's 60th tonight. All around, I'd say it's shaping up to be a pretty good birth month so far!

Florida

Well, we made it down here to Florida without any serious stress for Mommy! We'll be celebrating Nathan's 7th b-day on Friday, and my dad's 60th on Sunday, lots of fun to be had. The kids were in the Gulf as well as my parents' pool, the temperature of which is only in the low 70's. Mychael lasted the longest, out of shear determination to enjoy the pool, but Jordan was a close second, even after a scary moment of tumbling in and having to be pulled out by mommy. I had run into the kitchen for a second and was keeping an eye out the window. As I turned to load something into the dishwasher she must have fallen in, and Zach ran in to tell me. When I rushed out there and jumped in she was floating perfectly on her back, even though she's never been taught how to do that. I wonder if she had an angel holding her up...needless-to-say, I had a hard time sleeping that night, even though she was only in the water for a matter of seconds, you realize how quickly a tragedy can happen.
